There’s a lot to get to today boys and girls, so no small talk…let’s just get right to it.
First, another part of an item got crossed off the list this week. Thanks to my boss and a vendor (who will remain nameless) that is trying to put their best foot forward, I got to spend Wednesday night at the Verizon Center in DC, watching the Capitals play their last home game of the season. What could be better than that? Well, I’ll tell you what. Seeing the game from the comfort of a fully stocked suite, that’s what.
Yep, the big cheese and I were wined and dined (if you want to call hot dogs, sandwiches, and Bud Light “wining and dining”) and treated to a Caps win! Much thanks to the vendor that shall remain nameless for unknowingly helping me accomplish a goal. Note to self: explore further, the idea of getting vendors to pay for items on my 30 Before 30 list. I like the potential here.
Ok, what was next on my list of things to discuss with you today? Oh, right, the whole guest posting thing. I wanted to send one last thank you out to Tori over at The Ramblings for her cooperation over the past couple weeks. If you’ve been under a rock, in outer space, or in a poor-writing-induced coma after reading too many of my posts, you might not realize that Tori and I switched blogs for a day last week and again this week in an effort to bring together our massive fan bases. We are now able to collectively fill a short school bus with the number of readers we’ve accumulated. Thank you, thank you very much!
To all the other bloggers that I love so much; feel free to email me if you’d be interested in trying a similar experiment with your blog. If you’d prefer to keep your page quarantined from my potentially toxic, reader-unfriendly writing, I understand completely.
Next! You may have noticed the addition of a new tab on my home page. I call it, “Lil Help Please…”, and it’s my plea to you, my loyal readers, for assistance in a few specific items on my list. You see, from time to time, a friend or follower of this blog has mentioned that they may be able to lend a hand with something here or there. So far, nothing has really panned out. But I sincerely appreciate the efforts and hope that as a team, we can continue to reach out to others and spread the connections around.
So I’ve created this page specifically for readers to comment about ways they may be able to assist on these “pipe dream” items. I’m not expecting anything, believe me. The fact that you are even reading this means so much to me. But if your cousin happens to know the guy who cleans the tour bus for the Dave Matthews Band; I’m not going to fight you if you want to touch base with him on my behalf…you see what I’m saying? So I’ll be responding to any and all comments left on that page in the hope that we can get a true dialogue going and maybe make something happen!
Finally, before I get to the updates for this week, I want to mention that I am officially throwing my hat into the ring. No, I’m not running for office…that’s just ridiculous. What I am doing is entering my very first writing contest. There are some interesting rules to this contest and I have created two possible entries. I’m going to decide on one to enter over the weekend and then I will post the understudy here, next week, for you to ridicule and roast. Something to look forward to, right? Now, onto the Friday updates.
#1-3: As a tribute to one of my newest blog buddies, The Idiot, I am going to start posting some stats each week in regards to my progress in the fitness category. Seeing as I really just re-started my training midway through this week, the numbers aren’t that impressive.
- Miles ran: 8 (3.5 Tuesday, 4.5 Thurday)
- # of Pushups: 60
- # of Situps: 50
- Random Ipod song: “Again it Goes Unnoticed” by Dashboard Confessional
After taking a rather long respite from working out and failing to come up with any legitimate reasons for it, I got started this week and felt pretty good. Looking forward to a full week of fitness coming up and some more impressive numbers to display.
#5) In a post earlier this week, I began asking you for suggestions for my tattoo. I may or may not take them, but I always enjoy reading them. Keep the ideas coming as I am starting to take this one more seriously now and am eyeing early summer as the possible “go time”.
#13) Made a rather decent dent in the book this week. Not so big that you’d have to take it to the dealership and order a new bumper, but big enough that you’d consider having it fixed rather than just leaving it. I’m on page 165 for those keeping track at home.
#21) I managed to track down an email address for my old High School golf coach and have reached out to him. Hopefully, the email is legit and I didn’t just ask some kid in India if he wants to “hit the links”. Anyway, I’ll let you know what becomes of this. I’m really looking forward to making this happen.
Alright guys, those are the big milestones worth mentioning this week. There is, however, one other milestone I want to mention before signing off for the weekend. On Sunday, my wonderful, beautiful, and crazy for putting up with me wife Jen will have a birthday. The big 2-8! I’ll wait while you sing happy birthday to her. Wow…that was…interesting. Anyway, love you babe and thanks for being such a great wife and friend!
PS: My best buddy Jeff and Jen’s best friend Sarah both share a birthday with her so a happy birthday to those guys too!

Am I going to do karaoke before you? Mine is scheduled for April 23rd. You better get on it boy!
Ugh…yes, you get to go first. Congrats. I haven’t scheduled anything yet, but it’s too hectic right now. I’m waiting until the summer when babysitters roam the streets.
One of your 30 before 30 goals should have been getting vendors to buy you things. This is a valuable skill that will serve you well for the rest of your life.
Agreed. I’ve already been offered tickets to the US Open golf tournament by another vendor. Things are starting to come together!
Anytime a blogger’s home page greets me with anything hockey related, I’m in! Congrats on viewing from a suite – those are super fun! Last time I was in a suite at a Kings game, we had an earthquake! LOL Keep up the good work 🙂
I knew you’d be stopping by so I purposely set up that post to greet you! Or it was a coincidence. Either way, thanks for the comment. Hope you’ll come back!
That Caps game experience would have been AWESOME! I think the Caps play great hockey, even though I rarely get to see their games on TV (or live, obviously)– living in Canada on the West Coast. 😦
Yea for you!
I worked for a nation-wide dental supplier (Patterson Dental) and Johnson and Johnson were one of our manufacturers. They offered 4 box Anaheim Ducks seats to our company. Our branch manager couldn’t use them, so gave them to the receptionist. I made a huge stink (I was in accounting…) so they had to share two tickets w/us! Hey, that was my first hockey game and it was AWESOME. Free beer/food..great people…sucky boyfriend though…wish I had that memory with my husband.
Anyway, later when I started dating Bill his roommate works for Trammel Crow (big commerical property management company) and was given crazy 5th row (or something crazy) seats to Los Angeles Kings playoffs game. Guess who was invited? He took his girlfriend and Bill took me…and they were down and came back to win it! It was like 2000/2001 they were down 3 goals and and in the last 5 minutes of the game, the Kings came back tied it and won it in overtime. Playoffs/5th row or so…
My husband turned to me and said “Okay, just so you know…not all hockey games are always this exciting.”
Hell, as far as I’m concerned HOCKEY IS AWESOME! I don’t follow it on tv but I’d rather watch that any day than football and gimme tickets…I’m so there! 🙂

P.S. NICE NEW PROFILE PHOTO! You guys look great, miss the family shot though…
I was never a big hockey fan until the first time I saw it in person. It’s like an entirely different game when you’re there. Being in a nice suite was just a bonus! Thanks for the photo props…doesn’t Jen look like a movie star? I’m just along for the ride!
Don’t sell yourself short on the running. I would bet that 75% of the population could never do 8 miles in a week! And I would bet that you will shatter that number next week! Good luck!
Thanks Bro! Yeah, I only got in two days of running this week. Next week, I hope to get to 4 or 5 days doing at least 4 miles at a time. Start to build that base up again. Thanks for the support!
Thanks Ms.Vic for the birthday wishes!
Jimmy…That was an awful lot of nice things to write about me! What do you want?
As a side not Jimmy, you can’t swim for a bit after the tatoo so remember to not plan it for the end of May, July or September!
Note*
See that, all you non-believers out there! SHE DOES EXIST! I believe this is your first comment babe, congrats. And why do you assume I am looking for something? Can’t a guy say some nice things about his wife? Sheeesh! So, um…I was wondering…
Oh Jim. I hope you did not just publish your wife’s age on this blog.
What a colossal blunder.
Not to mention, you might want to set your sights on Bill Simmons’ mailbag instead of trying to get on his podcast.
First of all, Jen is not nearly as concerned with her age as I obviously am. She’ll probably make a comment about how I’m so much older than her!
Second, I like to set my sights high my friend. I know you are still bitter about losing the March Madness pool to my Mom, but no need to bring me down with you. HAHA!!
Blog Swap 2011 was so much fun! Can you publish your short-story submission on your blog before the contest is over? I think your readers (my MOM as well) would LOVE both of them!
Not the one I am going to submit, but I will publish the other one. Just haven’t decided which is which yet.
I have an idea for your tattoo. Have the kids names tattooed on your shoulder. If it’s on your shoulder, you can show it off when you want but still hide it for business meetings!!
Love you blog! Good luck!
Another good idea. The shoulder is definitely one of the front runners as far as location goes. Thanks for the idea and for reading! You’re part of an elite group, all 7 of you!
Happy Birthday Jen! Hope you have a great day.
